Supporting an Alternative Energy Research Company
Torrent was initially contacted to provide basic analytical information regarding the possible effect of alternative energy production processes on critical applications. Following a successful first phase analysis, the client invited Torrent back to discuss the project in greater detail and to draw upon our related expertise for a better understanding of the chemical nature and impact of their current processes.
Torrent also evaluated the raw materials involved in order to locate the possible source of by-products and/or contaminants present that might negatively impact the success of the client’s processes.
How it helped our client: Torrent successfully narrowed the scope and lowered the number of process variables the client had to monitor, which enabled its staff to speed development and reduce production costs. Torrent has been retained to assist the client with additional process optimization on an on-going basis.
Helping a Waste Treatment Chemicals Manufacturer
Torrent was contacted by a nationally known waste treatment chemicals manufacturing company to assist with the investigation of possible inhibitors responsible for muting the effect of the waste disposal treatment capabilities of its chemicals.
After an in-depth technical consultation, Torrent designed for the client a road map for the product failure investigation. Leveraging our core competencies in and experience with various waste treatment processes, our technical staff quickly developed the analytical investigation parameters necessary to identify potential reasons for the product failure.
How it helped our client: Two weeks after receiving the project, Torrent successfully confirmed the presence of the material that was responsible for the inhibition of the treatment chemicals. Our report identified the source of the problem and reason for product failure, providing our client with a clear path to remediation.
Method Development – CR6 in Air Cartridges
When Torrent received an urgent request for a method for Hexavalent Chromium analysis in air cartridges (OSHA ID-215), we did not have a current offering. We were able to develop the method and put it into active use within 24 hours. Additionally, we found a supplier with the proper cartridges required for the sampling procedure and had them shipped to the client for next morning sampling. Meanwhile, our dedicated Inorganic team procured and formulated the necessary reagents and standards, and adjusted existing systems to meet method-specific column parameters, eluent and calibrations requirements.
How it helped our client: Torrent developed and implemented an air analysis method with rush turnaround service for our client’s time-sensitive project. Modifications were developed, tested, and qualified in time to receive the sampled cartridges and successfully execute the analysis.
In one engagement, a high-profile client asked Torrent to expand a compound list in order to accommodate a site requirement outside the normal scope of analyses. Our Semi-Volatile department rose to the challenge. We researched extraction and analytical techniques, identified the best candidates, and purchased the appropriate standards and solvents. In minimal time, our team extracted, calibrated, and performed MDLs on the additional compounds.
How it helped our client: We expanded the compound list and satisfied the client’s needs without sacrificing their expectation of TAT.
Because the Torrent project management team is comprised of degreed scientists, their involvement with clients is not limited to logistics and report delivery but also includes becoming a partner in problem solving. In one project, a mystery substance was submitted to Torrent for identification and for a determination of how and why the substance was formed. The client was only able to give the Torrent project manager information as to the location of the material. Through a focused inquiry, the project manager ascertained critical facts that led to a hypothesis for both the identity of the material and the reasons behind its formation. The hypothesis was then tested and confirmed.
How it helped our client: Our client was able to solve a customer’s immediate problem and offer an effective long-range solution to prevent the problem from reoccurring.
